For B's first year, I, and pretty much everyone, saw many reflections of Brent in him. He was (and is) completely Daddy's boy. It is wonderful how close they are and so adorable to watch Brent being Daddy. Nonetheless, it has been fun in the second year to start to see a bit more of me in him too. Sometimes they are odd little things. For instance, he would probably live on bread and Nutella if I let him. (I probably would too:). When it comes to food we definitely have similar tastes - popcorn, chocolate, peanut butter, apples, bread, cheese, etc... Of course, there is an argument that we may share these tastes as they are ones I have exposed him too, but nonetheless.
He also has some of my personality traits it seems such as being stubborn and emotional. Stubbornness is definitely a strong streak in our family, but there can be good from it too. He still doesn't look too much like me, but definitely has the "Dotter dimple" in his chin that as far as I know everyone in the Dotter clan has to varying degrees. It was one of the first things we noticed when he was born.
Brent also noticed immediately that he has just a bit of my elfin ears. (Basically, the edges of my ears are a bit bumpy rather than smooth in places). We have attributed this smilingly to my Irish heritage and B has some of his own. I remember thinking it was so sweet that Brent noticed that in our first moments with B. In short, one cool part of parenthood is seeing parts of you replicated either through genetics or nurturing and that is my love this Thursday. Here's to praying the good stuff shows through!

I just noticed in doing the pictures for the Christmas cards that john has my smile, I was so excited about that! Too young to show to many personality traits - but I so look forward to it!
I think B looks like you and brent alike. Some pictures I see you, some I see him. Good combo!
That is sweet:) It is interesting but more and more people say that which was hard to picture as Brent and I look so different, but perhaps there is a way to meld it. We shall see how he grows:)
What a great post. I enjoy seeing new things emerge in K on what seems like a daily basis. I tend to blame all the stubborness and fiery temper on her dad though. ;-) She has the dimpled chin as well, from her dad's side.
And Jamie, like I said on your blog, I think John is looking more and more like you everyday! I think the dad seems to always come out first when they are newborns, but then the mom slowly seeps through. It's so neat to look back and compare the pics month by month, just to see different traits emerge. We're so lucky to be living in the age of digital photography!
I think that Brendan looks a lot more like you as he gets older. I thought he had your lips from day one, and I at times I think he looks like Able, which I credit to you!!
