Dancing Shoes!

I have loved to dance for as long as I can remember.  So has my Mom.  So has my daughter.

Many of the memorable pictures from my early youth feature me in a leotard and tights.  Early memories are full of dancing in the yard.  Formal dance class didn't quite happen for me as a child due to a a myriad of financial and logistical challenges.  It never stopped me from loving it or finding ways to dance right up through my current interest in Zumba. My mother has always encouraged me and always found dance in her own journey too.

My daughter already lives in her leotards too.  She has been waiting for dance class and reading all the dance books she could find.  Now, it is almost time for her first, very informal taste so off we went to buy her very first dance shoes.

We didn't go anywhere fancy and they are just the very basic, but she loves them.  Her reaction to the ballet ones was "These are like slippers.  In these my feet glide easily over the floor."  Spot on my dear.

Next up, the tap shoes, too cute.  She knew what to do immediately -- this video is her first minute in her first dancing shoes.

It has been a couple days and she tries them on a time or two a day and tappity taps.  Class is about a week away.  It is nothing to serious.  She is doing the Dance/Gym combo class at Oklahoma Gold so she'll have half an hour of ballet/tap and then half an hour of gymnastics.  After this session we'll see if she wants to do dance, gymnastics, or stick with the combo for awhile.  I'm glad she has lots of options and love that she loves to dance.

You have no idea how it broke my heart not to be able to pay for dance lessons for you when you were young. I knew you were born to dance but could not afford to pay for lessons so we danced almost every day to music in the house and outside. Your grandma Dotter was born to dance as well, even though her husband didn't dance much at all. She danced with everyone else and had a great time. He didn't mind at all, since he loved to watch her have such a good time.
