I mentioned last week that Bill got B his first lightsaber, but forgot I had taken these pictures. Doesn't B look extatic? It is hard to capture all the light tricks with this cool toy, but a couple weeks later we're still loving it. What is it with boys and swords? I have no clue what, exactly, is the allure, but B is fascinated by them. We have some pretend sword like things here plus this light saber and we play with them daily. There are some foam versions at Grammy and Granddaddy's house and they get played with on practically every visit.
Whatever the reason, I do like it when simple, traditional toys make him happy. I try not to think about the violence of swords as I don't think he knows so much about that. We play gently and don't hurt each other at all. That, in itself, is an important lesson and a lot of fun!

This made me think of Able and the He-man sword he had when he was small. He would stand on the top step of the playhouse and, holding it aloft, shout, "I HAVE THE POWER!" Every boy should have one.
John loves his too. Specifically the lights. He pulls us into the closet and wants the lights off to play.
