Birthday Week - Ten Recent Maggie Moments

I wanted a Ten on Tuesday list for Birthday week as well so here are ten random memories/fun facts that stood out to me today about Maggie from the last few weeks.  I will likely make another list for the blog of milestones and such in coming days.

1.  She refuses to walk.  I think she "can" and does take a few steps, but usually refuses to do even that and just stands.  Adorable, but a bit confusing.

2. She LOVED Zane's swing chair.  She probably spent more time there than anywhere and was so adorable (my computer is fighting me so I'll add pictures later.)  She would get a blanket, pull it in with her and just chill (ok, for like 2 minutes, but it was the longest she would relax anywhere).  It inspired us to get her a chair of her own for her birthday, although it won't be nearly as cool as theirs (she is over the likely weight limit).

3. She is already moving through the turning one milestones.  When we reinstalled the car seat on Monday we turned it to face forwards and today she began the shift from formula in bottles to milk in sippy cups as we used up the last of the formula.  Such a big girl!

4.  Maggie and Zane appeared to be teaching each other bad habits on this trip.  By the time we left Maggie was waking up in the night (seems to have ended now that we're home) and Zane was screaming in the car like Maggie of prior years.... one wonders if they can communicate somehow.

5. Maggie babbles all the time now. I love it and wonder what she is saying.  She has a cute little conversational voice that sometimes escalates. I don't always notice, but am occasionally reminded that she's loud.  I did like that when Zane was crying in the car she would make little random comforting noises like B does with her, but she did sometimes escalate to screaming along too.

6.  We've been to four museums (give or take) in the last month.  Most of the time she just rides in the Ergo baby Carrier  and there isn't much for her to do.  The Magic House , as I mentioned in the last post, had a "Baby and Me" area.  This included a climbing station just her size.  She was so happy to have something just her size to do. She also seemed to enjoy the tiny kitchen and ball pit.  This was definitely my favorite kids activity of the bunch and hope we get to visit again on subsequent trips as they have things for kids of all ages and we only saw a fraction of it.

7.  M has several similar physical features to me as well.  Her legs are short and stocky which makes finding pants that fit tricky, particularly when they are part of a set.  This has come up repeatedly of late as we've been looking for new PJs and pants for the fall.  This is partially why she wears skirts a lot, but in part I just like them.  She also has thick feet which makes finding shoes that fit complicated, and a very familiar exercise for me.  She doesn't wear shoes much at all yet, but will need to once she does start walking so we'll have to conquer this issue too come fall.

8.  M's second favorite toy at Aunt Audra's house was the Salad Spinner.  These have great potential as a baby toy with lots to take apart and reassemble.  Do watch for baby fingers getting smashed though.  She played with it every day and plays with ours too.

9.  Flying with Maggie was a bit like I imagine wrangling a small monkey would be. M is in constant motion so trying to keep her contained even for a short flight was a quite the exercise.  I remember these days from when B was small and our flights we much longer.  I'm glad we won't be flying nearly as much with her.

10. Maggie is just starting to actually play with toys more. So far, putting things in and out of the shape sorter is popular (not through the holes), snuggling with her dolls and moving them around, playing with B's small Toy Story figures and legos, and flipping through board or cloth books seem to top the list. It is not necessarily in the way they are designed, but she manipulates them more so I'm fascinated to see what comes next.

Ok, this list is quite random and I really must go to sleep, but this is just a quick peak at things about Maggie right now as we approach her birthday.
