Day 6(ish): Children at Play

(NOTE: I am a type-A person, lawyer and consequently tend to be a compulsive rule follower.  Therefore, I feel compelled to preface this with the note that Ali assures us it is totally OK to have a page about something that actually happened a different day than the date on the page... Case in point- today's story is largely about things that happened yesterday, but is a story I want to tell today, which is totally fine as it is all part of our December Daily story and I'm good with that).

Children at Play (In Three Acts)
One of the reasons we moved back home to Oklahoma in 2008 was to be much closer to our families while raising our kids.  We love this, but also like just being at home.  (Note: This may be difficult to discern if you only know us in blogland as here we're always on the go!)  When we do seek out those special family moments, I always feel richly rewarded and we recommit ourselves to doing more of it which is where we find our little crew at the start of Act I of "Children at Play".

Act I: Late Sunday after a hectic grocery buying and tree decorating morning, we again bundled our little ones up for an adventure.  Brent's cousin Janna had invited us to watch her kids in their church's Christmas play, of which she was the director. We found our way to a pew at Southern Hills Christian Church just before 6pm and after a little pre-show wandering watched Kaedyn sing with the cherubs and cousin Ethan as Linus in A Charlie Brown Christmas.  Quite literally, our Children were at a Play and loved it.  M clapped through the entire thing.  B asked salient questions, quietly and was very excited.  Brent and I sighed with relief and were delighted to have shared this experience with Janna and our family.  We congratulated the players and moved to Act II.

Act II: At the mention of treats in the fellowship hall B had to stay a bit longer.  Within five minutes of treats, all kids under say 10ish were running in circles fueled by pure sugar.  Girls in lovely red dresses were dancing about with little M trying to join in the fun and beaming with happiness.  My little lady loves people!  B joined in the chasing and soon a crowd was running all over with M screaming in delight and repeatedly losing her ruby slippers.  Kids she didn't know were hugging her and everyone had a fabulous time.  It was very much children at play. We herded them home to bed and felt richly blessed for have braving the night and sharing a wonderful family moment.

Act III At home today.  At home, it was an ordinary day.  Nothing out of the ordinary at all, just our children at play together in late afternoon.  They dressed up in the silk play scarves, explored the tree, played with tops from the advent calendar today, played wii, snacked, read many books, made puzzles, colored, learned, loved each other and that blessing of playing with their sibling and parents enriched our daily life and holiday season.  Children at Play is a great blessing indeed however we may find it.
