Sooner Family Fun + Erik's Birthday Dinner

Moving to Oklahoma has definitely increased our social whirl and yesterday is a great example. In the morning, we cleaned house just a bit then headed to the "Mediterranean" Festival. This was held at the other Greek Orthodox church about a mile from our house as opposed to the one with the "Greek" festival a couple of weeks ago. I admit, I had no clue there were so many Greek Orthodox folks in Oklahoma, but perhaps it is just my neighborhood. This is the same church where we voted earlier in the week. This trip, however, was just a quick stop off for baklava for the afternoon gathering and a peek around at the crafts. It smells so good there!

Then, back to the house for naptime. We had to interrupt B's nap for the next event. Jamie's in-laws, Bob & Carolyn, who we've met before and who hosted their wedding reception were hosting a big family Sooner afternoon. (Carolyn is also af riend and loyal reader -- Hi!!) They had driven their RV up to Lake Arcadia and invited the Rouse/Richards/Jones group for gumbo + crab, shirmp and more boil. I should note that their RV is amazing and quite spacious. There was also a large outdoor set up with tables, a tent with toys, lawn chairs, a wagon and a very short walk to a playground for the kids. There were also four TVs onsite for optimum game viewing. We ate, played and had a fabulous time all afternoon. (Thanks to Suzi and the amazing bonbons-- those are dangerous!)

There are getting to be quite a few little ones which added to the fun. They ranged in age from 8 months to 12 years or so this time. These of course included our adorable nephew. He is growing so much and is a great wiggly, snuggler. We have to figure out a way to see him more! We were blessed with beautiful weather and wonderful family. B's favorite activity was being as much in the way as possible as he loved climbing up and down the RV stairs and opening and closing the screen door. Silly little guy that one. Thanks to the Joneses for an awesome afternoon! (Oh and the Sooners did win handidly for those not keeping track at home).

Sadly, we had to leave the lakeside fun a bit early, but it was for a good cause. Erik, Brent's best friend, was celebrating his 31st birthday by grilling dinner for all his buddies. B, I'll admit, was on the downhill slide a bit by this point after too much chocolate and too little sleep. He was, however, pretty entertaining. He saw milk in their (new!) fridge and insisted he have some. He grabbed the 1/2 gallon and took it to the table himself! He also decided he was hungry so took a plate and a bun out to Uncle Erik to try and speed the process along and came back with food while we were all still waiting. So cute, but he clearly needed sleep more than to be entertainment so we took him home for a well-deserved bath and bed time.

It was a very busy, but wonderful day and we're glad we got to share it with many of you. Thanks so much for everyone's warm hospitality, hugs and help!

(Ps. camera really is broken so we'll have to rely on Jamie for pictures. I'll share some when I see them).

What a fun day! I'm so glad you are back among your family and this particular set of friends. And I love your blog too. Go get a camera, you're making the big bucks.

A wonderful day. Brendan and I took several trips to the pauk (that's park in Brendan's language). He's quite the climber and knows no fear. The only distraction was the big yellow dump truck at the neighboring campsite. The kiddo loves trucks.
