Cookie Monday?

It has now been three weeks in a row so perhaps we can consider it a tradition. Monday afternoons, post- nap, have become our cookie baking day. Yes, we don't NEED to make cookies once a week, but is so tasty and fun! I try to make it educational by teaching him little new skills each time. For instance, this week we made peanut butter cookies with chocolate chunks. From which he learned (sort of) how to roll the dough into balls and then how to smash them down a bit with his fork. I wouldn't say he has great finesse with either task, but definitely did improve. Other times, we've learned how to crack eggs, scrape down the inside of the bowl, etc... I'll admit we eat some dough too. (I try to resist what with the raw eggs and all, but sometimes we get a little).

I have to admit that I quite enjoy it as we both strap into our aprons and play with the ingredients. He helps "check" on the cookies by peaking through the oven door and is rewarded with a final product after dinner. Usually, he is a great helper and wants more tasks if anything. I love this phase and am afraid it will pass all too quickly. We've been trying different recipes lately and frankly I've not been as happy with the outcomes as I would like or I would share here. Do you have a favorite recipe for us to try? If so send it my way and we'll give it a whirl.

Here's hoping your Monday is as sweet as ours.

Lovely tradition! You might be interested in something I saw at the grocery store... pasteurized eggs! I saw them in Cali, haven't looked here. But then you can feel good about eating your dough =)

My favorite cookies to bake are oatmeal, I'll have to give you the recipe when I get my recipe books out of storage!

Thanks! We clearly need a new oatmeal cookie recipe as the one we made last week wasn't very tasty. It was just OK and still some cookies left a week later which is telling...
