Dino-Buddy

Quick post at the end of a long day---

Recently, B has taken to sleeping with his big dinosaur. It is not a stuffed animal, but sort of medium soft plastic. Interestingly, it isn't in bed generally when we put him down so he is apparently getting out of bed to go get it and bring it in. He doesn't seem to be snuggling with it per se, just there with him. He brings it out along with his blanket and cup when he finishes his nap which is pretty cute. Seems to make opening the door more of a struggle, but he works it out. I've asked the dinosaur's name and am told it is "Green." The dinosaur is partially green in color (as you can see) so I'm not sure if he understands the naming it concept or not. Overall, is an interesting new development particularly as I was quite the one for sleeping with my stuffed animals for more years than I'd like to admit. He also is coming to get us less often and back to a bit more wall-kicking. In an amazing turn of events I think we got to sleep in past 8:30 once this weekend. All this just in time for the ultimate sleep disruption, right?

Ps. Any thoughts on naming the baby a shortened form of a name rather than the full name. Like say how my parents did naming me Abbey not Abigail? Is particularly relavent in the Margaret/Maggie concept, but in some other possibilities too. Thanks for all the votes and comments on the name game we appreciate it and may toss up some others as our discussiosn continue.

I like Maggie - but if Margaret is meaningful in some way, then naming her one thing and calling her another is a-ok in my book. (Just in case you were reading my book!) :):

I don't love Margaret as much as some names and find I like Maggie more. That said, Margaret is my saint's name, taken at confirmation so there is some meaning there. I also wonder about the usefulness of having a more formal name and then an informal version to choose from. Not sure and of course not sure we'll even pick this one, just things we're pondering.

I think it's a great idea to name the baby what you actually intend to call them if you know it in advance =) It's been complicated my whole life to explain that I'm Chrissie and not Jana or Christine. If you prefer the whole name be the legal one it's fine too though =)

I think she'd like to have options when she's older to make it more formal. I went by my middle name for a while (Elizabeth - couldn't take the teasing Summer got me in middle school and it stuck thru HS) and even though I went by Liz sometimes, I applied for jobs and such as Elizabeth just b/c I thought it sounded "older."

Yeah, Brent struggles with his being named something else at times too, but is more like Chrissie where he is going by his middle name rather than a shortened form of his first name. Summer's use of her options is interesting though too.

This really has nothing to do with this particular post and maybe I shouldn't even post this, but on the subject of names...when I see Amity, all I can think of is the horrible movie that scared me to death as a child...The Amityville Horror! Obviously, if you name your precious daughter this, it will be great therapy for me and I will come to associate something else with the name but I just thought you should know what my first thoughts were!! I would never have told you this if there had not been a poll and you weren't asking for opinions!! :)
