Oklahoma Railway Museum
Today, we ventured out in search of trains. More specifically, the Oklahoma Railway Museum. We've been meaning to go for awhile and today seemed like a good day. We had a little trouble getting started and didn't really have directions so it was a circuitous route. Along the way, we happened on to the Oklahoma Firefighters' Museum so we hopped out and played on old fire trucks for a bit first.
The Railway Museum is free and open Thursday - Sunday. It is basically a collection of old train cars, most of which can be explored and some of which contain train memorabilia. I spent the first half or more of our visit feeding Maggie while B and Able explored. Then I joined in and saw some old train memorabilia and lots of different types of engines. We had the site to ourselves other than the docent so we got plenty of help when we wanted it and lots of space to ourselves. I think B really enjoyed it and look forward to coming back some weekend when the trains are running. We also plan to attend the "Day out with Thomas" event that will take place the last weekend in September and the first weekend in October. If you are interested in attending let me know as we plan to buy our tickets in advance and would love the company.
Also for the train lovers out there Disney and Amtrak are sponsoring the "A Christmas Carol" train tour of the US and it will be in OKC this Friday-Sunday at the downtown train depot. The event is free and hasn't been publicized much. It sounds like a fun time and we may check it out on Friday.
