The sweetness of two
I love how much my kids love each other. They are the best at making each other smile and already seem to love being together. On Thursday, M was not feeling well and fussy. Only Big Brother could make her smile. So often when she sees him she just lights up in big happy grins. He, meanwhile, is earning his favored status by repeatedly bringing her toys and "checking on her" (The bringing her toys "may" be to get her to stop playing with his.... in full disclosure). They also have this game of laughing at each other in the back seat. Sometimes it starts when B is trying to cheer her up and other times I'm not sure what starts it. I do know I love the sound of them laughing together and those sweet smiles.
B is also starting to help feed M as she moves to more solid foods like cheerios. As DC is trying to cope with the blizzard situation I was fielding calls from the President and Vice Presidents on various topics while trying to feed the kids lunch. I would wonder off now and again to grab a reference and B just took over. He made sure M had things to play with and eat and helped her with her food. He was sweet and gentle about it (can feel people worrying about this and admit I do too sometimes). Interestingly, at three they both were already "helping" me by helping each other. I loved it and was so surprised by it.
Today, they also took their first bath together. Sadly, there are no pictures or video and I already feel a moment has been missed, but Brent is too sick and I had to keep them from drowning. We'll catch it next time. In any case, B was excited to have her join him and they had a big time. She took awhile to acclimate, but then began her usual splashing routine and was delighted to discover that he has toys in his bathtub. I got her out first and B insisted on getting out at the same time so they were both snuggled in towels as they headed off to get ready for bed.
I know there are bumps in the road for them as siblings and days when they won't be as happy. Even now, B is bossy with her at times. Nevertheless, I'm loving these early days and excited that they will get to grow together and hopefully be as close as my siblings and I are.
