So our first small birthday party for Maggie was on Thursday with just the four of us. Today, was the larger family party and we had a blast. Kaedyn and Brendan probably had the most fun. They played fairy and pirate together, ran around the cul de sac, ate, screamed, and generally had a blast. Maggie got lots of a attention, cake and hugs from her parents, grandparents, "cousins" and great granparents.
We began the festivities with brunch featuring quiche, baked french toast, fruit salad, corn chive muffins and marguerites (a type of cookie I "had" to make to honor our Marguerite). We of course finished up with two kinds of cake and ice cream with presents and playing in the middle.
When B turned one there was a memorable (in a bad way) part of the festivities where he started choking at his party and vomited all over me as I disloged the chex mix. The wacky moment at this first birthday party occured when we discovered that we could not find a single match or lighter in our house, our parents' cars, or at the neighbors. We elected to dispense with actually lighting the candle for today, but I'm sure it will be the weird thing we remember from this celebration.
Sadly, it occured to me late in the festivities that for the first time none of our siblings could come. Medical reasons and scheduling both played a role in this, but it was still so still sad. Luckily, the Carr crew (Brent's cousin and her family) was there to fill in for the absent first cousins and siblings. Hopefully they will all be with us in some future years.
Prep for the parties this weekend was pretty intense and I so appreciate all the help from my mom who cooked, cleaned, and watched children for the better part of the last two days at our house. I don't know how we could have pulled this off without her help. Thanks so much mom!

I hated that I couldn't be there since I have been to all of Brendan's parties. But we were there in spirit and looks like you guys had a blast with out us.
Happy bday
