So, Friday, .... yeah, didn't so much get posted on time. I think you'll be able to guess why by the end.
1:54 am - We wake up to B screaming "Daddy, Mama" from across the house. I run across the house, which I'm sure would have been hysterical to see. He is vomiting in his bathroom sink. I groan. He seems to have it under control so I get him a towel and go check on his sobbing sister. She is, of course, terrified and now awake. Brent arrives and works with vomit boy (because he is a a prince among men -- I handle vomit very poorly to not at all and am fairly terrified of getting anything that would cause me to vomit at this stage in the pregnancy as that seems horrible). I convince M it is still night time, calm her down and lay with her while she tries to go back to sleep. B and Brent set up temporary bed situations in the living room-- more vomit follows. I'm going to stop here, but just assume some version of this cycle goes on for an hour and a half until he keeps down his prescribed anti-nausea meds.
3:30-7 - Sleep
7am -9:20am Brent gets ready for work and leaves about 7:30 as usual. I try to sleep, but M isn't staying asleep long and B slept on the couch so is awake too. They watch breakfast and then watch some episode of Strawberry Shortcake. I get M ready for school, pack her lunch, etc. B, obviously, is having another sick day. He seems to be feeling better, but is clearly tired and cranky as at one point he tells me he is never going to talk to me again. (I think this was because I asked him to maybe pick up his cup or something--- he has talked to me since). I take M to school and warn the teachers to watch her just in case.
9:40 Back at home, I work and B watches Sonic the Hedgehog, eats crackers, plays video games, etc....Eventually, he takes a nap. I have lots of calls at work today.
2:00pm A little mini-crisis breaks out full of confusion and crazy (this actually happens to someone in our office fairly often on Friday afternoons, but it was not a good week for it to be my turn). I try to turn it over to colleagues as my day is ending in 20 minutes, but fail. I keep trying to manage it while I wrap up my day, pick up M and have to cranky, tired kids at home. I leave them to pick out something on Netflix while I try to get my crisis wrapped up. In the space of an email they are both screaming and in tears. The story is that B hit M with a Wii-mote --- I doubt this, at least intentionally, but B isn't talking and M is so he goes to time out, followed by some time alone in his bed to calm down.
3:00 pm - The situation is spiraling out of control as both kids are constantly crying or fighting or something. I have abandoned work (of course) but know I'll have to go back to it at least briefly at some point before my office closes (roughly 4:30 in my time zone). I give up and call in reinforcements. Brent is able to come home a bit early on Fridays due to working on Thursday nights as well as some random Saturday duty. He leaves straight away (could it be because of all the crying in the background?). By the time he arrives home everyone is perfectly calm. M and I are snuggling watching Wonder Pets and B has emerged from his room--- obviously.
5:20 - Bill (aka Granddaddy) arrives to pick up the kids. They are SO ready to go and head off for dinner and fun with their Grandparents. Brent and I head towards Norman and the "Education Celebration" at OU.
6:45 -9 pm It is a lovely banquet honoring various educators around the state. One of Brent's colleagues is inducted in to the Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame to great applause. Brent and I reminisce about our days at OU and have some quiet time together at a place we love. Then we head back to retrieve our littles.
9:45 - 10:45 - We pick up the very very tired kids from their Grandparents with our profuse thanks and take them home. We tuck them into bed and go to sleep too as it has been a very tiring, emotional, and stressful day with a busy weekend ahead.
