Ten on Tuesday

 1.  This is mostly what evenings look like here - books + Olympics all smooshed together on the couch.  I am still loving the Olympics, but can feel the saturation point approaching.  Being up in the night has certainly allowed me much more time to follow events online than would be normal and is probably feeding my interest more than usual (see below).

2.  I am such a gymnastics crazy this time.  Still enjoying following it all on Twitter.  My favorite new writer found through this is an AP reporter named Will Graves - pithy tweets and well written stories.  Better still, my favorite of the "fierce five" Women's Gymanstics team - Aly Raisman had a fabulous final day becoming the first female gymnast from the US to win a gold medal on the floor exercise at the Olympics. She also won bronze on beam and tied for third in the all -around (due to a tie breaker she doesn't get a bronze for that effort, sadly).  In any case,  she has always been a bit in the shadow of the bigger names, but I have been a fan for awhile and am so happy for her success.

3.  I am going to the post- Olympic gymnastics tour when it comes to OKC with my mom and a few friends.  It is one of those things I've thought of attending before, but never have.  It should be interesting, right?
4.  We've been doing a lot of this too.  Last week, we spent many an afternoon just hanging out with Grandma in the heat of the afternoon either at her house or ours.  Grandma and Uncle Able are heading to spice school for the next couple weeks in Denver.  We will miss them a bunch, but know they will have a great time!

5. Today I had a mother of three winning moment.  Brent mentioned last week a back-to-school faculty party this week.  I promptly forgot when  it was taking place.  At 3:45 all of us were napping (supposedly) when he called to work out how to get to the party.  I managed to get myself and all three kids up, dressed, packed for a swimming party, and made a pasta salad to take in less than 45 minutes --- it probably doesn't sound like much if you haven't tried this, but was quite an achievement in my books.

6.  Today, the Edmond schools called with the back to school message about informational meetings and first day of school things for next week. This whole, having a kindergartner is happening.  B has been doing so well lately as my #1 helper and absolutely saved the day a few times during the weekend party festivities.  He was rewarded with two Skylanders for service above and beyond the call of big-brotherhood this weekend.  I am going to miss him so much when he heads to school.  I so hope the transition goes well and that it can be wonderful for him.

7.  It rained! Can you believe it? We went to the swimming party I mentioned above and couldn't swim due to thunder and lightening.  M actually thought it was night time at 5pm as there were actual clouds around -- unheard of! We think it might have been E's first experience with rain-- 8 weeks into life.

8.

I saw this quote/image on pinterest this week and really like it.  I am not so good at the being silly part, but hope that maybe my kids will help teach me that part.

9.

I also really like this one and it seemed appropriate to share it thi sweek as we celebrate the arrival of the new Curiosity Rover on Mars.  One of the bonuses of being up in the middle of the night was getting to see some of the first images from Curiosity upon its arrival on Mars.  So cool.  We're big space exploration/research/science fans here.

10. E @ 8 Weeks - Isn't he adorable? This is his crazy post-bath hair, kinda love it.

We've switched up our night routine again and I 'think' most nights it has been going a lot better.  Each of us is usually up just once... although we're usually up with him at least an hour per turn :(  He is starting to make these gagging, choking noises sometimes which sound like he might be having some reflux issues.  He hasn't been crying crazy with it like M was, but is more chill overall so we'll have to see.

He is awake so much more now and maybe only naps for 3 hours or so during the day most days it seems.  It might be more as we're seeing more shorter naps rather than a few longer ones (not ideal).  He is very good at holding his head up by himself and seems to enjoy being sat up to look all around and observe his environment.  He is completely adorable doing this.  Something about a very tiny person sitting up (supported, obviously).

Breastfeeding continues, as does bottle feeding.  He is a big snuggler and wiggles a lot when he is trying to sleep. I think all of us wish he'd settle just a bit more into his sleep as the wiggling keeps us all up.  He still has cradle cap and a bit of baby acne.  The baby oil seems to be helping the cradle cap a bit, but perhaps making the acne worse?

B is watching him a bit more for me in short stretches when I shower or do chores or something.  He is good at calming him down and a good judge of when calming him is beyond his skills (aka when to come get me).  M continues to give him lots of little kisses, tell him he's sweet and encourage him that everything is OK as we're all here with him.

Late next week is his two month appointment so we'll have some stats to see exactly how big our snuzzler is getting:)

Happy last few days of Summer vacation and of the Olympics!
