Ten on Tuesday

1.  We had the most amazing waffles for dinner this evening. The only waffles I've ever had that were better were actually IN Belgium. Believe it or not, the recipe I used was only Orangette's second favorite waffle recipe which means we're going to be having waffles again soon to try the favorite and probably more frequently than we ever did before this... seriously, try it.

2. I happened upon this Geek's ABC's recently and perhaps because we spend so much time on letters I found it particularly amusing and some of you may as well. For those less geeky and more Mommy, try this (ABCs and PhDs) about the author's five minute plan.  I've been fascinated by it.  Sometimes it seems so little and then other times I think about my lack of focus.  It is an article that makes you think.

3. My Dad dropped by this evening to pick up things to take to my sister and did a little pruning for me.  I recently happened upon this recipe that might be an appropriate thank you gift. Rhubarb Orange Meringue Pie.

4. I had a bit of a rough trip back from DC on Friday.  My plane was delayed about four hours due to weather in TX, plane problems in DC, and then more weather.  We managed to take off at 9:56pm just four minutes before the flight curfew of 10pm.  By the time I reached DFW all the flights for OKC had left.  I did get on the first flight the next morning.  Thankfully, I got Jamie took me back and forth to the airport and let me stay at her house rather than sleep on the cot with the other stranded folks from my  plane. I was very tired by the time I got back, but glad to be home.

5. We had an amazing hail storm here on Sunday.  The hail at our house was only marble sized, but there was so much more of it than I've ever seen in one hail storm.  There are a couple pictures here as well as B playing in the puddles after.  My garden is a bit worse for the wear, particularly all the leaf vegetables, but thankfully no major damage unlike some of our neighbors further south.

6.  I had a wonderful dinner with a few of my DC girl friends on Friday.  We're coming to that realization that law school is more than 5 years in the past now.  Oddly, the three of us that arrived first are all in the same jobs we started in.  I'm not sure it was our plan or that we're all happy about it, but we've reached that perplexing level of comfort.  I love talking over our lives, kids, careers and more with them. It was so wonderful!

7.  I managed to fall completely off the weight loss wagon again. I remain mostly convinced there is nothing that tastes decent and is remotely healthy in airports. I really must learn to pack myself a meal and/or snacks as it tends to devolve from there.  In good news, my favorite Zumba teacher returned today and I will once again throw myself back on plan.  I wish the weight loss phase were complete, but it never is going to be if I don't remained focused more than I have been.

8.  Maggie had a new tooth come in today. I think the fourth will follow shortly.  Both are top center.  She is remarkably chill about the whole teething thing at the moment and I am so thankful for that.

9. B is requiring a bit of work on the discipline front this week as things seemed to have slipped a bit while I was away or maybe its a new phase, who knows.  Just a lot more crying and prodding than we've had in awhile, but other times crazy helpful and happy.  He is sick again which may be part of it.

10. Maggie is going to the Opthamologist this week.  Brent has Amblyopia which may be inherited so our kids are checked once around nine months and again around 2.5 years as it needs to be caught by age three in order to correct it.  That said, eye appointments in the first year are recommended for all babies, and you can read more about that in my previous post here.

I have several more posts in the works so if you're lucky you may hear more from us this week.  Meanwhile, watch out for the crazy weather!
