Mommy & Me Swimming

Long-time followers may remember that we attempted Mommy & Me swimming classes for B when I was pregnant with M and he was just over two.  They didn't work that well.  Partially he was probably too old, part was his general personality and then there was the travel + ear tubes.  (You can read about it here and here -- makes me laugh now considering how much he loves his classes).  As noted, my kids are just completely different.

M is a people person.  Where B never liked circle time or the mommy & me situations too much M appears to love it so far.  She immediately approached the one other little boy in the locker room to say hi and make friends before we even made it to the pool deck.  Her class consists of 4 boys and Maggie.  She is in about the middle of the age range with two older and two younger, I think.  She just beamed from the moment we got in the water as she does whenever we go swimming.  She was full of smiles, kicking and excitement from the outset.  Her teacher was B's from last month and very sweet with her.  M tried everything and was so happy with her attempts.  The class is largely as made up of activities described in my posts above.  Short songs, practicing getting in, practicing climbing out, blowing bubbles, kicking using a flotation device, a passing the ball game and more songs.

She was so excited about everything and would start furiously kicking her little legs underwater, waving, splashing and generally loving life.  Her favorite part was being able to climb out of the pool on her own.  She is able to reach for the ledge and pull her body up and out which surprised me and was pretty awesome.  We did this many times. I was surprised at how nice she was about sharing/passing the ball in the group game.  She definitely wanted the ball and would lunge after it whenever the opportunity was presented, but immediately would push it along to the next boy.  Very sweet.

I think she got a little tired of it in the last five minutes as she started muttering in the closing song time a bit less happily, but quite the success.  In the end, there is less locker room drama than with B, but still tricking to try to get dressed when she immediately runs off to investigate the showers the very moment I release her.  I'm so glad that she enjoyed it and looking forward to a month of water time myself.  Hurrah for swimming!
