B spotted the one on the Christmas tree immediately, which is why I made sure to annouce the hunt before he left the room and discovered it on his own. M, with a little help ended up with three in her basket and was quite content to begin sampling the goods while her brother found the remaining ones. B searched high and low, with just a little help and collected quite the haul of candy canes--- only to discover that he no longer likes the taste of candy canes. Not to worry, he promptly agreed to decorate the tree with his winnings and helpfully attempted to hang them higher than M could reach.
M, meanwhile, was a huge fan of the candy canes and spent much of the rest of the day "begging" near the tree for those that she couldn't reach. At one point, she even cut her lip with a candy cane (we think) but was not at all disuaded and continued to cover herself in sweet pepperment goo and smiling right along.
Brent and I really liked the hung and I think will make it a tradition as it is the perfect way to start a wintry Sunday morning when Christmas time is calling.
Crafters' Note: I'm a bit torn about which pictures I'll use. It will definitely be these two, but there are four in the series of M enjoying her candy cane so I may make a collage of those. I also plan to include some of the packaging from the candy canes that has the history of candy canes & the candy cane company on it.
Ps. It is possible that most, if not all, of the candy canes may have disappeared by Day 13 as the complete messiness and begging that accompany M's candy cane fixation is probably not good for sanity and cleanliness in everyday life, but not to worry, they will reappear now and then as the month wears on.
