December 7 Prompt – Community Prompt: Community. Where have you discovered community, online or otherwise, in 2010? What community would you like to join, create or more deeply connect with in 2011? (Author: Cali Harris)
I have increased my involvement in two communities this year: Zumba & Scrapbooking and hope to get more involved and find new friends in each in 2011.
I started Zumba in late January and while there have been some gaps in involvement I've continued pretty regularly ever since. There are a core group of people I see at class all the time and while I'm not in the "in" crowd per se I do know and talk to several people before class. I was really touched today when several of them commented on missing me over this last month or so and asked about my injury. They are fun ladies and I'm glad to be part of their circle.
I've been scrapbooking for nearly a decade in fits and starts, but no year have I been as active as this one. I'm much more involved in blogs, twitter, group projects, challenges on various sites, etc this year and have made MANY more pages than ever before. While I doubt any of the "names" would recognize my name or my work, I enjoy following their stories and getting feedback on some of my projects from some of these sites. Being a Glue Dottie has expanded my circle some too as has taking classes at Big Picture Classes. I have enjoyed making new friends, learning new things, and preserving memories as part of this community of amazing crafters.
(It sort of feel like every day Reverb is becoming about Zumba or scrapbooking so will try to think harder and shake this up as the month goes along, but these have been the new and exciting things I've been learning about this year beyond motherhood and my job).
